Youth Mentor VT73
We are a ‘Not for Profit’ Charity which has been granted ‘Deductible Gift Recipient’ status by the ATO. A Board conducts our affairs and ensures that the foundational ethos and vision is maintained.
Our Vision is to enable young Australians at risk to realise their full potential by becoming fully human. We have continuously sponsored camps in the bush for ‘at risk’ youth since 2006. This is known as the Bush Phase and goes over 10 days.
Recently, we have added a further element known as the Mateship Phase which goes over the 12 months following the camp. In the Mateship Phase each youth is paired with a responsible male adult (Mate) who will provide mentoring to that youth for 12 months. The youths who are selected to take part in the Bush and consequent Mateship Phases are males, in the age group of 14-17.
We are seeking male volunteers to be Mates. The Mate will meet his youth at the end of the Bush Phase, and sit with the youth to mutually discuss how he will assist that youth in fulfilling the good resolutions he made on the camp, and help him to overcome the negative influences in his life.
In order to be a Mate you will need to:
have a Qld Government Blue Card for working with children – if you do not have a Blue Card we will help you get one at no cost
be an adult male – single or married, working or retired
be a person of good character
be prepared to devote 4-6 hours per month to the youth
have own vehicle to enable your meetings with the youth
